I set out to post daily for 14 days on something you can do that is small, but really impacts your overall health. I had my nice + neat list all planned out… but then life started happening. Sick kids, work, life! I love the way my thoughts turned out, I truly thought every day… what am I thankful for? What can I look at today through different lenses. I hope one of these thoughts will change the way you see things and truly make your life a little more “well”:)

1. Drink more water

Drink more water this is one of those habits that you hear all the time, right? I’ll agree with that, but you hear it all the time because it’s one of the most health changing things you can do! Focus on getting more water in earlier in the day so that you aren’t constantly trying to catch up. Bonus: get a cute container for your water so that you love carrying it around everywhere with you and sipping water all day long!

2. Drink one smoothie a day

Drink one smoothie a day! Most days I have a smoothie either for breakfast, lunch or for mid afternoon snack. This really helps to make sure I reach my daily greens goal and to be honest it just makes my life a whole lot easier! When I’m on the go or I don’t have time to eat, a smoothie is what I turn to. To make the a great smoothie it should contain: fats, greens, liquid and fruit. This will ensure to keep your full for several hours! Check out this video on how to make a perfect smoothie!

3. Choose Gratefulness

Choose gratefulness! Your thoughts effect every aspect of your life and can really play havoc on your health. Having 2 sick kids at home could seem like a real bummer- for many reasons. BUT it’s all about a choice you have as to how to look at it. We have choices to make every single day – to think positively about or negatively about. I CHOOSE to be grateful that I can be the one at home taking care of them. Where can you choose joy today?

4. Take one bath a week

Take one bath a week. Now this is something I get really excited about! I love hoping into a warm bath with a good book and usually some kind of facial care happening. For us moms, we NEED that alone time and to pour back into ourselves. Now you could just simply soak in some warm water OR you could totally up level your bath experience! To take it to the next level: add 1/2 cup epsom salt + 1/2 cup baking soda + your choice of essential oils. IF your feeling the need for a detox ( sick or just want some extra detox effect) add 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar + 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide to the next level mixture. Take the plunge and see the effects of taking your self care to the next level!

5. Get your Vitamin D

Ever wonder why so much sickness happens from October to March? The days are shorter and it’s colder outside so we don’t spend nearly as much time in the direct sunlight as the other months of the year. Vitamin D is foundational for many processes in the body, one of which is immunity. We get the best vitamin d from the sun. I try to get outside as much as I can when it’s warm enough and I also supplement in the winter months with a vitamin d supplement. Go enjoy some sunshine today!

6. Rest

What? Ain’t no body got time for rest you think. Yes, I used to think that as well. Go, go, go, and go some more. That’s what we do right? That’s what burned out people do – yes! Want to feel MORE productive by doing less?  I can certainly help you with that: getting clear on what you are here to bring – but for now just know this. To give our full selves to our (or in my case His) purpose, our spouse, Children, family etc. we need to put some deposits into our own bank Acct. For me that’s a little bit every day but for sure Sunday. Check in and see how you are doing in this area and make some time to rest friends

7. Eat ya greens

eat ya greens! I’m sure you haven’t heard this one before, right? You keep hearing it because getting 2/3 cups of greens in daily will change a lot up for you. You will feel more energetic, your digestion will improve and skin will begin to get that glow. There are tons more research-y things I could post, but that’s not my jam. What I love to provide you with are my own personal experiences! Try adding more greens into your diet via a smoothie, a salad or as a side You will be pleasantly surprised at how much prettier your plate looks too!

8. Don’t take yourself too seriously

Did you know the act of laughing can decrease stress, lower your blood pressure and simply put you in a better mood? Now who doesn’t want that?!

9. Appreciate everything life “serves” you

Wellness # 9 : appreciate everything life “serves” you. Perspective… its a powerful thing. Some may look at my spaghetti and meatball snack and think it doesn’t look very appealing. But I’m so incredibly happy to be served leaf and stick spaghetti and meatball snack on a random Wednesday at the playground that it just makes my heart skip a beat ? but really—life sometimes serves up some crappy looking circumstances that don’t always go our way, but do we choose to look at them with eyes of “ what Can I learn from this OR why did this happen to me??” Be on the lookout for all that God has for you in these every day Small moments and in big moments too 

10. Check your intentions

You know when you do a certain task “just because you think you have to to get what you want”. Like workout because you want to drop some inches, eat healthy because you want to loose weight, or be nice to someone because you want something in return. It works in theory- as in yes B might happen if you do A BUT will it really bring you the outcome that you want? When I think of what truly being well means, it starts with the right intention. To move my body because I know it will help all aspects of my life (mind and body), eat a whole food diet because I want to feel my best and of course treat everyone as you want want to be treated yourself, wanting nothing in return. Many times when our intentions get off track- everything else seems to follow. Friends don’t let friends get off track

11. We all need the same

I worked a shift at the pharmacy today and it got me thinking as I was in a meeting about various approaches to patient care. Yes, I see our healthcare system as majorly broken, but who is to blame? We always want to point the finger at each other. It’s the Dr’s fault, it’s the “systems” fault etc, BUT I believe it is truly OUR own fault. Instead of pointing the finger at someone else we should be looking in the mirror and thinking what can I do to take my healthcare into my own hands. Not what Dr can I go to that will “fix me” or which pill can I take to make me feel better. Not that we don’t need help from modern medicine and Dr’s- we definitely do. But true health and wellness does not start there.

As I was driving home today the song “bleed the same” came on the radio, and as I was singing it I thought of a different way for the lyrics to go that spoke to what I pray for to one day happen. We truly do all need the same thing- to be in charge our own health. and take ACTION in our own lives.

12. Invest in yourself

 Every time I take my daily supplements, eat nutritious food, take care of myself, I put a little coin back into my “bank” account. Do you make more withdrawals than you make deposits? Supplementation is high up on my investment list. When you invest in yourself through supplementation, you are actually investing in the future of your health and well being. For instance, your skin cells completely regenerate in 27 days. That’s pretty cool to me! I want to make sure my skin cells are increasingly stronger and more nourished each time that happens. Do you make more withdrawals than you make deposits?

13. What “spills” over from your choices?

I love this Sunday school lesson we received several months ago and caught myself thinking about it again today, as I often do. We were discussing fruit of the spirit and went through a study on all of them over several weeks. At the end of the study, we discussed how our choices sometimes make our “fruit spill out of our basket”. And was that good fruit or bad fruit. It got me thinking about the choices we make concerning our health. Are they making good things like energy, healthy digestion and glowing skin spill over OR are they no so favorable things like fatigue, headaches and constipation? Our choices DO make a difference. It doesn’t matter how small you think something is, it truly all adds up in how you look and feel.

14.  What serves you best?

Lets review all of the tips – drink more water, incorporate more smoothies into your life, choose gratefulness, take one bath a week, get your vitamin D, rest, eat your greens, don’t take yourself too seriously, appreciate everything life serves you, check your intentions, we all need the same (thing), invest in yourself, your choices do make a difference. WOW! What an unexpected journey! When I set out to do this, I had my nice neat list of all the things I was going to cover… well, that took a drastic turn which ended up being a great thing. I found myself each day just speaking from what the day had taught me. Such a powerful way to look at things. Everything happens FOR us and therefore we can learn something from every single experience that comes our way. I love to get to the end of the day and think about what felt heavy that day and what felt light. This way I can truly see what is serving me and what is not. I would encourage you all to do the same and see what wellness transpires for you. Do more of what serves you and creates more wellness in your life and less of what doesn’t. It truly is that simple…
