Make it as simple as possible, but not simpler. -Albert Einstein.
Fasting and detox are crucial for our bodies to thrive and to see change in the way our bodies perform. Don’t I just have to eat less calories and work out more to be healthy? It’s just not that simple! Yes, maybe that’s a start in the right direction, if we are constantly filling our bodies with food. Give your body what it needs to repair and then get out of the way.
Your liver filters all of your blood every 6 minutes. It’s like a car engine filter. You are going down the highway at 80 when you should be going 60, and all the soot, break dust, that you cannot see, is being brought in the car filter and so you breathe the semi fresh air. Once a year you are going to have that car filter changed. When we take it out it looks black. That’s essentially what your liver is doing for your body. We are in contact with 77k man made chemicals and it’s your body’s job to try and filter those out. Why aren’t we doing more to help detox and cleanse our body?
Fasting is a great place to start. It is one of the only truly proven things to extend lifespan and keep people healthy. One of the main reasons is autophagy (Autophagy is the body’s way of cleaning out damaged cells, in order to regenerate newer, healthier cells). When we fast our body cleans up waste. Every time we eat there is metabolic waste. When your body doesn’t have an excess coming in, it will clean on the inside.
Fasting also allows your body to focus on other ways of balancing the immune system, such as cell death in cells that are diseased, bacterial and viral based cells.
Basically, we shouldn’t be eating all the time, for many reasons but one being that it throws off your blood sugar. You should aim for 3-4 hours minimum between meals for overall lifespan and health. It gives you time between meals for autophagy. Spacing out meals/snacks is the place to start if you find yourself snacking constantly during the day .
We know it can seem overwhelming to try something new but you truly don’t have to do anything special! Keeping it really simple is best.
A couple of different ways you can fast:
The daily 12 hour fast
Ideally fast for the hours of 6 pm-6/8 am. You get massive fat burning capacity during those times. If you want to gain weight, eat between the hours of 6 and 10. If you don’t want to gain weight, avoid eating during that window. If you eat late at night, your lymphatic system also suffers. There just isn’t enough time to push everything through and filter it.
*Note: If you have hypoglycemia *you should not fast 12 hours*
Eight hours after your last meal, your body enters the “fasting” state because it takes about that long for your body to FULLY digest and absorb all nutrients (depending on the content of your pre-fast meal). So if you are going 12 or 14 hours, you are getting about 4-6 hours in a true fasted state. There are so many benefits it’s good to go longer in that state every so often.
Weekly 24 hour fast.
This is taking your health to the next level! We find it best to start Sunday night and end Monday night. You can have all green juice (no fruit), DNS shakes, or just water. Just water is absolutely the best option!
Your body needs a break from digestion. Just like if you strained a muscle, you might have to put it into a sling and let it heal. Fasting is a 2 prong approach: nothing will reduce inflammation in the body like water fasting and nothing heals Bowel lining/gut lining like water fasting. You’ve got this and we are here to support and encourage you along the way!
